If it's not a daily driver, you might try Hagerty or Grundy insurance.  They
are both nationwide and insure collector cars at a much reduced rate.  I
have all four of my checkers in a varity of conditions with Hagerty.

and will not be coming from the Checker Car Club of America.  I don't
want to put the club in the position appraisng Checkers and assuming any
of the risks or liabilities associated with that service.

Sure, we lived in the "Lock Haven Apts. in Ballard back in '53, does this 
make us eligible to join ??  My brother lives on No. 122nd, in Seattle, if 
you need a reference...Seriously. since we live just north of Houston, now,

I have a fully restored 1964 A-12.  I also have a 1963 Ford Galaxie.  The 
Galaxie was easy to insure, they wanted a garage, but I convinced them of a 
car cover.  It can be a daily driver.  My '64 was a bit tougher.  It is near 
perfect.  I had a frame off restoration that took three years and my 
inheritance!  I had trouble finding someone to insure it for the value, but 
I had been working with Joe Pollard for parts and advice.  He was able to 
get the car appraised.  That satisfied the insurance company because they 
wouldn't go over 10K on the car.  The bad part is the number of miles able 
to be driven, etc. but with that much value I had to leave the garage!  It 
is worth knowing I can recoup most of my money if need be, especially since 
in 2004 it was rearended.  I was pretty much beyond upset.  P.O.S. car vs. 
Checker.  No damage to my Checker.

Thanks God.  That car artificially inflated the prices of all Checker.

Don't get me wrong, I want to get a top price for any Checker, but some
pretty shabby cars have been priced very high lately.

My in-laws tell me the Checker meet was highlighted on the CBS show Sunday Morning  on June 18.  Apparently there were old clips of the factory assembly line, pictures of taxi and non-taxi Checkers, and mention of the bi-annual meet in Kalamazoo.  Was there any official contact from CBS?

My wife e-mailed Sunday Morning (our favorite show) a few months ago telling them of the National Meet, but we never heard anything in response.  Coincidence?

Not sure where they got it from originally, but an editor at CBS Sunday
Morning gave me a call looking for photos, stock footage, etc. on Friday
morning (geez, talk about last minute) to run a story on the anniversary
of the first Checker off the assembly line.  They didn't know anything
about the show and said they'd mention it.  I missed it (power outage
just when the show was coming on) and have no idea what they used. 
Anyone tape it?  I'll try to get permission to copy it for the club
archive and maybe stream it from the site.

Tim,

Yep. I got to see it as did a number of others, including 
Jim Garrison.

It was a short (2 -3 minute max) historical highlight on the 
83 rd anniversary of the first (1923) cab off the Kalamazoo 
line. Had some photos of the 1923 being driven, shot at 
Gilmore by the Channel 3 CBS affiliate in Kalamazoo plus 
stock photos of the various models over the years, some 
stock footage of working yellow Checker taxis in a city, 
followed by some shots at the Friday picnic in Glen Markin 
Park East. Those shots prominently featured close ups of Jim 
Garrison's blue/silver Winkoff and the gold 50th Anniversary 
wagon; the long shot showing all the cars had my gray / 
black 81 "mini limo" in the "front" of the line. The closing 
line (paraphrased since I don't remember it exactly) is that 
"the Checker Taxi is not quite gone yet; it's still being 
kept alive by the club members".

Jim Garrison knows some people there and is trying to get 
the footage from the Kalamazoo Channel 3 affiliate.
